Sans Reflet
Immersive and interactive experience
With Mickaël Pilon, Axel Gervais, Tristan Roy, Antoine Haddad, and Gabriel Carpentier
Context
Sans Reflet draws on our modern overexposure to media to materialize a state of dissociation: the participant first sees themselves faithfully reflected on a fragmented mosaic, then watches that representation detach from them, repeat itself, ignore them, until they become a mere witness to their own presence. The work never offers resolution. It keeps the participant in a continuous state of perceptual instability, physically present but perceptually absent.
Role
I took on the role of PO, set designer, and integrator: team management, conceptual and technical decisions, the TouchDesigner control system, and integrating every part together. I also contributed extensively to visual design, interaction design, and mapping, as well as stage work, including lighting, the sound system, and the communication network.
Challenge
Sans Reflet relied on a multitude of components that all had to coexist: 4 Orbbec sensors, 3 projectors, 3 spotlights, 5 speakers, and 2 computers, for nearly 8 minutes of varied, fully interactive and evolving visuals. To make it all hold together, I had to design a management system for the mosaic's tiles, a system to optimize overall performance, and several other control and communication systems linking the project's different parts.
